Barry Branscome

Starting his furniture career within a month of the May, 1971 creation of EPA, Mr. Branscome became involved in environmental affairs at an early stage, with a boiler project and a plant expansion beginning during his first year of employment. Along with numerous other facility and manufacturing responsibilities, he has had continued involvement in the environmental matters of the furniture industry. He has worked diligently for the industry for over 38 years, serving on early environmental committees and becoming a charter member of the ACE Committee. He became a member of the BOE in February 2009 after becoming an EFEC auditor during 2008.

David Davis
Environmental & Safety Director
Hooker Furniture Company

Mr. Davis oversees all corporate compliance efforts for environmental and safety, as well as engineering functions related to capital planning, loss prevention, and facilities management. He has over 25 years experience with engineering concepts in the furniture industry and has worked with Federal EPA as well as state and local agencies on environmental regulations for the industry. The champion for Hooker Furniture's EFEC efforts in reducing waste throughout the company, he also works with subsidiaries Sam Moore and Bradington-Young in this regard. He is also the 2008 recipient of the Environmental Leadership Award given by AHFA.

Lewis Herman
Environmental and Facilities Engineering Manager
La-Z-Boy Case Goods

Mr. Herman has 21 years of environmental experience that includes four years as an environmental consultant prior to employment with La-Z-Boy division and subsidiary companies Hammary and Kincaid Furniture. He is responsible for environmental compliance, oversight and environmental stewardship for the Case Goods group. Mr. Herman authored Kincaid Furniture Company’s Sustainable By Design Program which was the first Case Goods operation to receive registration. He has been a participant on several AHFA environmental committees, is an EFEC Auditor and has actively served on the EFEC Board of Examiners since the creation of the board. He is also the 2009 recipient of the Environmental Leadership Award given by AHFA.

Jim Laughlin

Mr. Laughlin is a registered professional engineer with over 35 years of progressive experience including development and implementation of environmental management systems, multimedia permitting, regulatory strategy development, air quality modeling and air pollution control design. He has worked for AHFA and its member companies for over 20 years and was instrumental in the development of both AHFA's EFEC and Sustainable by Design programs.

Dave Maddox

Prior to his retirement in 2008 from Stanley Furniture, Mr. Maddox had worked in the furniture industry for more than 35 years in various manufacturing and engineering management positions. He has been an active participant on numerous AHFA, state and federal environmental committees. His areas of expertise are in multiple engineering disciplines and manufacturing processes in the furniture industry, MACT applicability, Title V and PSD permitting.

Alan H. McConnell

Mr. McConnell is a partner in the environmental practice group who provides environmental representation, counseling and litigation services on a wide range of legislative, administrative and regulatory matters in the field of environmental law, with a particular emphasis on the Clean Air Act. He has extensive experience with state and federal environmental administrative laws, with special emphasis on the regulation of air pollution. As national environmental counsel for the AHFA, Alan was intrumental in the development of AHFA's environmental management system (EFEC) and in the development of the Sustainable by Design concept and program.

Rod Miller

Mr. Miller oversees environmental management for LZB Residential, England, Bauhaus, Kincaid, American Drew, Lea and Hammary. Having over twenty-four years of experience, his role within La-Z-Boy is to ensure the responsible stewardship of the environment by integrating environmentally sound and sustainable business practices into the company's daily business decisions.

Donna Musick

Since joining her company in 2002, Ms. Musick has been responsible for the environmental compliance programs. She has been trained as an EFEC program leader, and EFEC auditor and has been an active member of the EFEC Board of Examiners for two years. Prior to her current position, she participated in an EFEC pilot program at Drexel Heritage and, in September 2008, helped Hickory Chair acquire their EFEC registration.

Bill Perdue

Mr. Perdue has close to thirty years of experience in the environmental field, all in the furniture industry. His skills are "multi-media" dealing with air, water and waste regulatory issues. He is responsible for regulatory compliance oversight with duties that include: air permitting, emission audits, emission calculations, reporting, pollution prevention and waste minimization, energy resources and real estate transactions.

David Stout

Mr. Stout began working in the industry as materials and scheduling manager, production manager, quality control manager, then went on to be the corporate environmental manager for Broyhill furniture, while also working as the safety coordinator before taking on his current position. He served on the original board for EFEC and is a certified EFEC manager and auditor.

Randy Waibel, CHMM

Mr. Waibel is currently responsible for environmental management and compliance programs for more than 50 Hickory Springs locations. With over 22 years of employment experience as an environmental consultant and with the U.S. EPA, he has had the opportunity to work in many aspects of environmental regulatory compliance, investigations, remediation, and restoration. His broad range of experience includes many different regulatory compliance programs, including RCRA, CWA, CAA, TSCA, FIFRA, DOT HMT, and OSHA. He has conducted many “multi-media” regulatory compliance audits for industrial, municipal, health care, and commercial facilities, as well as large universities. More recently, he is actively engaged in a variety of sustainability activities and integrating environmental goals with practical and business realities.
